History
Farnham is a small market own situated in the West of Surrey and within easy commuting distance of London. Farnhams history is claimed to date back tens of thousands of years to the early stoneage due to tools and animal bones found in deep gravel pits. During the Roman period the area became a pottery centre due to the gault clay and oak woodlands.
The railway arrived in Farnham in 1848 and in 1854 nearby Aldershot became the home of the British Army. Both these events had a significant effect on Farnham. The fast rail link to London meant business men could have a home in the country while keeping close links with the office. Many army families settled in the area.
